Golfed Out

Taking a break from golf for a while. After 92 rounds this year I find myself low on golf interest and enthusiasm. Lucky to live in a climate that permits so many rounds. We were lucky to get 35 rounds in a year when we lived in Connecticut. My USGA Index ranged between 13.4 and 10.2 for the year. Currently at 12.1. I will return when rested and ready to go again.

I love my dog, Larkin.

What a special friend. No need to convince those of you who love dogs. After watching the Hallmark Special on TV last night, "A Dog Named Christmas" I decided to treat her today to a doggy spa day with me. For starters we will take a little drive and then head to the nearby lake for a swim and then share some lunch together. It does not get any better than this.

Coach goes out with a poem

Coach Al Groh read this poem to his team after the game today:

The Guy in the Glass

by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.

For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.

He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,
And think you're a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the guy in the glass.

In grateful memory of our father, the author, Dale Wimbrow 1895-1954

Time to START OVER

The UVA football season ended today with another loss to VA Tech. It looked promising in the first half, but the Hokie's superior (recruiting) talent became evident in the last 2 quarters. No where to go but up for the Wahoos.

Northwestern Runs by Irish in Holiday Hoops

Northwestern Wildcats 72 - Notre Dame Fighting Irish 58
Next game: @ Iowa State Cyclones, Nov 28 8:00pm ET

www.ncaa.com  The Northwestern team will face a big, strong defensive team in Iowa State. Stay tuned, sports fans. Go Wildcats!

Need a win today

A friendly $5 wager with my son in law, Craig, could be settled today with UVA gaining its 4th victory of the season. At the begining of the season I set the over/under line at 3 wins for the Cavs and Craig took the under. We are at a  "PUSH" so far. Stay tuned. Game and kick at 3:30 today. "Go 'hoos". Classic game with arch rival Virgina Tech. Culture vs. agriculture for sure.

Virginia Tech vs UVA in Charlottesville today could be the place of a big upset for the Virginia Cavaliers. Just one win in the last 8 meetings for the Whahoos. Today could be the day. Expect more hokie fans to be there than home fans. Just the way it is today. Something has to change and I expect it will regardless of the outcome today.
